Kangaroos and wallabies

[ animal001 ] Kangaroos are generally very timid animals in the wild but in places where they have become accustomed to people you can get very close to them and even feed them by hand. When "threatened" or alarmed however, these cute furry animal will stand upright to defend themselves and you suddenly realise that they're not that small. Their claws are very sharp and strong and a kick from their hind legs can inflict serious injuries.

Avoid feeding them as they can become aggressive if you stop feeding them before they're ready (just like swans but bigger and meaner) and steer clear of mothers with young joeys.

I once came across an adult male napping on a rock on Langi Ghiran and for a few moments we stood eye to eye wondering what the other would do. I did nothing and he slowly hopped into the bush, but seeing a large kangaroo face to face in the middle of the bush is a very intimidating experience.
