Priority #1

 [ alpine053 ]

Needless to say most of my trips are planned around carrying and using 15kg of camera equipment. The key to photography is being in the right place at the right time in order to see the world at its best. If you make the effort to travel to a spectacular location, why not make the extra effort to see it at its most beautiful.

There are two periods of the day that I religiously dedicate to photography (weather permitting); from an hour before sunrise to two hours after and two hours before sunset to one or two hours after.

"I'd rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than in any city on earth."

Steve McQueen

Cons

  • I hate getting out of bed.
  • You can't see what you're eating for dinner.
  • I like sleeping in.
  • You get used to setting up camp and cooking in the dark but there's an added degree of difficulty to finding a smooth camping spot.
  • I like sleeping in.
  • Pre dawn can be VERY cold especially when you're not really awake yet.
  • I like sleeping in.

Pros

  • With the exception of Uluru, most people are either in bed or preparing meals at this time of the day so you'll have the place to yourself.
  • You can't see what you're eating for dinner.
