Tarra-Bulga National Park

of the best places in Victoria are the ones that have been left
alone by developers. In the middle of one of Gippsland's main
logging areas are two small gems of national parks. There are a
number of short walks and picnic areas in the park and the Tara
Valley is lined with caravan parks and camping grounds. Other than
that the only thing around is a lot of rainforest.
My first visit there was partly to photograph some tree ferns for
a National Parks poster submission and partly because I had been
nagged by a local cafe owner to go there instead of passing through
on my way to Licola. There are lots of 4WD tracks to explore and
plenty of tree ferns. It's a quiet, peaceful place and must be one
of the best places to come and do absolutely nothing.

saw several people just sitting by the side of the river reading a
book, but I was also off exploring for waterfalls. Unfortunately
most of the tracks do not go down near the creeks so approaching any
waterfall off the back roads involves negotiating some thick bush on
very steep slopes. The weekend turned out to be a success with one
of the shots being accepted for the Tarra-Bulga national parks
poster.
