Current Postgraduate Students
Once you have been formally offered a candidature, you must enrol through the School of Graduate Research.

Submission check-list
Initial submission (examination takes 4-6 months)
- Present completion seminar (contact the Department for publicity assistance)
- Return completion report to SGS
- Submit 80 word summary on-line
- Submit three heat-bound copies of the thesis to SGS
- 'Submission of PhD thesis' form submitted to SGS
- If your thesis requires restricted access for legal reasons or due to patent application, complete a restricted access form and return it to the School of Graduate Research.
Examiner recommendations (reports have been released to you via SGS)
- Submit thesis amendments and revisions with a list of changes and unbound thesis to Chairperson of Examiners
Final submission (permission to bind has been given by Chairperson of Examiners)
- Submit two finally bound copies of the thesis to either the Department or the School of Graduate Studies. One of these must be on archive quality paper (acid-free).
- Contact Student Administration regarding graduation.
Scholarships
The Melbourne Scholarships Office co-ordinate undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships available at the University of Melbourne.
International scholarship applications for students not yet enrolled must be received by the Melbourne Scholarships Office by 31st August.
Local scholarship applications and those for already enrolled international students must use the SCHOLS system and applications close on 31st October each year.
Facilities for postgraduate students:
Students have access to a variety of facilities and services, both in the Department and across the University, including:
- Student induction kit and Departmental Guides
- Access to local, STD and ISD telephones (where required)
- Access to the comprehensive University libraries, and to interlibrary loans
- Computer facilities and desks for each student, including internet and email access
- IT support
- Locker space
- Photocopying
- Use of pigeon holes, internal and external mail
- Use of stationery and consumable items
- 24 hour building access
Postgraduate students are encouraged to attend skills development programs run through the School of Graduate Research.
Plagiarism
Students must ensure that they comply with University plagiarism policies. Information is available on the seriousness of plagiarism, how to avoid it, referencing, and the University policy on academic honesty and plagiarism.
